A Message From Dr. Kim

Gratitude is the word that comes to mind when I think of my practice in ophthalmology. My mind floods with past images: a Haitian patient walked over 10 miles of mountainous terrain to have his cataract removed; a stoic Guatamalan farmer never flinched during a cataract surgery with only local anesthesia; an apprehensive Japanese widow who had a major blunt trauma to her recent surgical eye, was resolutely hopeful about seeing well again; an elderly retiree with end stage glaucoma entrusted me to remove his cataract in his only seeing eye. many more stories.  My heart is full and I am forever grateful for all the patients who have faith in me and entrust me with the care of their eyesight, their precious gift. More than that, my patients have taught me about courage and grace with their exemplary responses in the face of sometimes tragic and heart-breaking adversities. Their sincere appreciation for the care they’ve received and steadfast hopefulness despite their dire circumstances encourage me to deliver care with more personal attention and compassion. I hope to continue to learn from my patients whom I consider my friends, and who help me to be a better ophthalmologist and more than that, a better person.
